Herbs assist the healing
process in a slower and deeper style than western medicine which
only treats symptoms. You need to be patient with herbs. Also, don't
try to diagnose and treat your pet with herbs yourself. They have
different reactions to herbs than humans do. So even if you know
a lot about herbs for yourself, either study or consult an expert
before treating your pet.
There are many veterinarians who
now offer Chinese herbs in their treatment options. There are also
full lines of Chinese herbs created especially for animals. The
stronger potencies are only available through veterinarians. There
are some over-the counter Chinese Herb mixtures available though
you'll probably have more success using a veterinarians mixture.
Moist/Damp
When diagnosing your pet, the vet will look at things like color
of tongue and gums, as well as overall behavior and personality.
Based on the evaluation they will prescribe a starting mixture.
After taking the herb for a while, progress is measured and possibly
more herbs are given. Sometimes one will heal the issue.
Uses
and Treatments with Chinese Herbs
Chinese Herbs are used for a variety
of different reasons. As with Homeopathy,
they don't treat the symptom as much as the system. It's about whole
body health.
Luna was given a mixture called Shen-Calmer
for his nervousness and stress which was causing UTI's. The treatment
bottle is large and will last between 4 - 6 months depending on
dosage and size of animal. We put one small spoon full (the measuring
spoon is included with the bottle) in his dinner every night and
it has produced a gradually calmer mood in Luna. He finished the
treatment bottle about a year ago and it seems to have held. No
more starting and running at the slightest sound!
